Trail Running Description

Day 1: Hemja to Lwang via Dampus and Pitam Deurali

The trail starts from Hemja with a gradual ascent. That works as a warm-up for the legs and lungs. First stop: Dampus; a stunning village of Gurung people on the mountainside. Running through its stone-paved streets feels like stepping back in time. Traditional Gurung settlements with the Annapurna range and Machhapuchhre on the backdrop are the most beautiful views ever.

The trail guides to Pitam Deurali via Pothana (1,890 m | 6,201 ft). It can be a tough climb winding through dense forests and ridgelines. The higher the climb, the higher the heartbeats. But the reward from this viewpoint is exhilarating. The 360° view of the Himalayas and the whole forest is breathtaking.

Then comes the descent; fast, technical, and a bit of risk. Each pace is closer to Lwang (1,460 m | 4,790 ft), a charming Gurung village. Overnight stay at a family-run lodge surrounded by lush tea plantations. Rejoice at Lwang with locally brewed tea and spectacular sights of a golden sunset over Annapurna South and Machhapuchhre.

Day 2: Lwang to Landruk via Dhod Kharka and Kuypuche Basti

Set off for the race to Landruk with a locally brewed tea. The trail quickly ascends towards Dhod Kharka (2,507 m/ 8,228 ft) through the dense lush forest. Gradually, the mountain opens a gateway to another world. Entering the forest is a striking experience. Old trees rise above the sky, and perennial ferns and mosses thrive in the cool humid.

The silence is deep, broken only by the crunch of leaves and the chirping of birds. At every pace feels like entering a tunnel of greenery, offering pristine wilderness. Here, the energy of the forest is profound. Running such a trail is like releasing the raw power of the Himalayas.

Emerging from this dense forest, you reach Kuypuche Basti, a small settlement where a few stone houses thrive. Then comes the descent to Landruk (1,565 m/ 5,135 ft). Running down the trail of sloppy hills, you reach Landruk crossing Kipche Khola (stream). Overnight stay at Landruk. Landruk slows down your heartbeats and lungs. Settled above the Modi Khola, it is a beautiful village opposite to Ghandruk; known for culturally rich Gurungs.

Day 3 – Landruk to Panchase Top via Pothana and Bhadure

Today, the trail runs between villages and ascends through the jungle to Panchase. The departure starts with a controlled pace and warm-up for further race. After crossing the Tibu Khola, the climb takes a gradual upward climb. You will run through the terraced fields and past the different villages. The crisp morning air will surely energize you.

After crossing Ghatte Khola, another steeper ascent towards Pothana. Never wonder if you come across another natural stream while running the trial. Nepal’s landscape is blessed with free-flowing streams along Hills and mountains. As you progress the slope sharpens, the terrain becomes rockier, and requires greater effort.

The moment you reach Pitam Deurali, the race continues tracing back the same route. You race through family-run teahouses, forests, and exposed ridges. However, the scene is always majestic, giving you great relief after a long endurance. Australian Camp is on gentle terrain, perfect reset before a technical descent toward Nayabazar.

Crossing Kande, you race against a series of upward and downward slopes to reach Panchase Top – our resting shelter for the night. While running on the trail, give yourself a permission to adore the beautiful Panchase temples by the Panchase Lake nestled on top of the Panchase hill. Reaching Panchase Top is a mix of exhaustion and wonder. It offers a panoramic view of Pokhara Valley and the surrounding mountains on a clear day.

Day 4 – Panchase Top to Pokhara

The final day of the trail running is a descent to the bank of pristine Fewa Lake. It is marked by spectacular views of the villages, terrain, and mountain views. You will run covering around 22 km with 600 meters of elevation gain. You set off at dawn from Panchase Tower, where the sunrise lights up the Annapurna ranges to Machapuchare, passing by Manaslu, and Dhaulagiri.

The descent begins through 12 kilometers of forest trails leading to Bhanjyang Pokhari (Pond) and later joins a dirt road to World Peace Pagoda stupa, another popular sightseeing landmark of Pokhara. From there, a small trail path guides to the shore of Fewa Lake, marking the end of the 49.95 miles (80.39 km) Trail race from Hemja to Fewa Lake.

To wind up this incredible adventure, what better way than to cross the Fewa Lake on a wooden boat, gliding over its calm waters? Stepping on Pokhara concludes your 4 Days trail running filled with adventures, discoveries, and a bit of pumping hearts.
